Russian village «Shuvalovka»

You need only a half an hour to get to the village, situated not far from Petrodvoretz, that got a name Russian village «Shuvalovka». It represents a center of ethnographic Russian culture. Some centuries ago, in 1714 this land of the coast of the Gulf of Finland was «handed over for the use» under the order of Peter the First. There were five yards over there, one of them became the village with Finnish name «Korkuli». For the following years the eminent owners of the manor changed, among them was the well-known count Ivan Shuvalov. Unfortunately, only the name and the land, where the large manor was situated, were conserved to our days. Not so long ago the project of the village «Shuvalovka» was found in archives, and now you could see it practically as it had been before. Actually, in Shuvalov’s time there was not any hotel, museum or restaurant. All these improvements were created especially for you. So, you are welcome!

«Shuvalovka» occupies about 8,5 hectares, and a great part of it represents so-named «Oily meadow». It is unknown how it served for the previous owners, but, as for the new project, it became a place of active recreation. Now the folk parties, trade-fairs, festivals or fireworks are held there. If you come to «Shuvalovka» to celebrate New year’s holiday, Christmas or Pancake week, certainly you will find yourself on the «Oily meadow». Masked, skomorokhs, folk songs, dances and round dances, New year’s and Christmas parties, hot pancakes, Russian vodka - all these interesting things won’t make indifferent even a deep-seated townsman.

Hotel «Burse»

The building of this hotel is an exact copy of Russian izba of the beginning of the 18th century, situated on the north-western regions of Russia. Village coziness, fresh country recreation, riding troika and fine dinner in the real Russian restaurant - all these possibilities could be so pleasant that you won’t wish returning to noisy city. «Burse» is at your service: there are more than 20 double rooms, and also there are rooms de luxe.

Restaurant of the village «Shuvalovka»

This restaurant will let you enjoying national cuisine, tasting different homemade fruit liqueurs, listening to the Russian folklore or dancing with Gypsies. Its interior is enough strict, though it looks partly as looked a habitual Russian izba: with wooden benches and big table, covered with linen table-cloth, with copper crockery and an old poker, stayed near the real Russian oven. This restaurant could admit more than 200 men at once. As for those who prefer have dinner separately, there is a special VIP hall.

Traditional izba

Image
It represents an exact copy of izba, owned by a well-to-do peasant that had been living in Novgorod of province at the end of the 17th century. Its interior had been restored to the smallest detail together with Russian Ethnographic museum and became an original country subsidiary. So, for the amateurs who like to make the most of recreation, an excursion through the small museum will be enough cognitive, especially because there are not many museums all over the world that could show the secret of the most popular drink in Russia. If you visit a tasting room you will not only know the history of invention and of preparing of vodka, you will also taste it. Thus, you’d better be prepared for it beforehand. Besides, you can’t leave Shuvalovka empty handed, without gifts and souvenirs. You need only glance into merchant’s house where you could find all traditional trades. Among the trades which are famous in Russian land are: varnished miniature, brooches and adornments, downy kerchiefs and head-dresses, made of valuable fur, traditional matreshkas; crockery, painted in khokhloma and gjel style. And, besides, forged and earthenware souvenirs that craftsmen make exactly in Shuvalovka, are also among these trades. Don’t you believe? Go to the forge or to the pottery and make sure of it yourself.

Forge and Pottery.

Two separate izbas, staying side by side, are built especially for craftsmen. Here you could not only admire the process of forging, modelling and baking, but also you could try yourself as a real craftsman. Under the tactful leadership of the professional you could model a pot or a vase, make a real horseshoe and hang it on your private door - for luck. And even if you are not sentimental, visit the town of craftsmen - it would be very interesting!

Windmill.

Certainly, Russia isn’t Holland and it isn’t famous for plenty of windmills, but on the territory of Shuvalovka there is one. It doesn’t serve for milling grain and it is impossible to fix wind direction, looking at it, though it was built according to the ancient design of the time of Shuvalov. It is situated on the hill and it serves as an original decoration of the district because it is visible from any point of it. By the way, for coming visitors from the side of the city, it serves as a guiding line to Russian village.

Bar «Boat»

According to the idea of the designers, the exact copy of Novgorod boat of the end of the 16th century was altered into a real pub that could admit about 40 men. The freshest lager or mum beer, filtered on non filtered beer, dried fish, all sorts of snacks, salty home-made crackers - could not it be named as the paradise for the amateurs of this fine drink, beer. What is more, Russians began drinking beer earlier than vodka. And as for the summer time - there will be 60 places more, located on the open area of the bar. So, those who like barmy beer will be glad in Shuvalovka.
